International Mentor Network

The International Mentor Network is a new initiative by Erhverv Aarhus, developed in collaboration with Studenterhus Aarhus, supporting international graduates in their transition into the Danish labour market.

Through the programme, international jobseekers are matched with experienced professionals from the Danish business community, who provide guidance on job searching and act as cultural guides to Danish workplace norms and expectations.

The programme builds on Erhverv Aarhus’ experience with successful mentor initiatives, while being tailored specifically to an international target group.

Mentorship programme

The International Mentor Network is a new initiative developed by Erhverv Aarhus in collaboration with Studenterhus Aarhus, partially funded by Interreg, building on the strong experience and proven effectiveness of the established Erhverv Aarhus Mentor Network.

Based on the successful Danish mentor model at Erhverv Aarhus, the programme is tailored to support international graduates and recently graduated professionals in navigating the Danish job market, with special attention to workplace culture, recruitment practices, and professional norms.

The mentor programme lasts approximately three months and includes three joint meetings for all mentors and mentees. Mentors and mentees are expected to stay in contact around once a week, while the exact framework is agreed upon by each mentor–mentee match.

How you can become a mentor

What does it take to be a mentor?

You do not need prior experience as a mentor. What matters is your professional experience and your willingness to support an unemployed international graduate on their path towards employment.

As a mentor, you share your time (approx. an a hour a week) and insights by guiding and sparring with your mentee – for example through feedback on CVs and applications, structuring the job search, exploring new career opportunities, or opening up your professional network. You may also act as a cultural guide, helping your mentee navigate Danish workplace culture, norms, and expectations.

How you engage and support your mentee is flexible and up to you – and your involvement can make a real difference.

Mentees

Would you like to become a mentee?

Erhverv Aarhus and Studenterhus Aarhus, in collaboration with Job Aarhus, are responsible for identifying and recruiting motivated jobseekers who wish to participate in the International Mentor Network.

The matching of mentors and mentees is carried out in close collaboration between the above mentioned partners.

The mentor programme in the International Mentor Network is aimed at unemployed international graduates and recently graduated professionals, who hold a medium long or long higher education degree, and who are based in Aarhus and the surrounding area.
